The itineraries we offer are flexible and can be adapted to suit, both the time available to you and your preferences for the type of bird you would like to see.

DAY 1: Yanacocha Reserve and Zuroloma Reserve - Sachatamia Lodge

Early pick up from your hotel in Quito and drive to Zuroloma in the highlands on the Pichincha volcano at 3200 m. The main targets here will be Ocellated Tapaculo, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Aquatorial Antpitta, Chestnut-naped Antpitta, Saphirevented Puffleg, Masked Flowerpiercer, Rufous-breasted Chat-Tyrant and Tyrian Metaltail. After birding we will continue to Sachatamia Lodge. Night at Sachatamia.

DAY 2: Sachatamia Lodge – Angel Paz

Refugio Paz de las Aves is a famous place for Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Giant, Moustached, Yellow-breasted, Ochrebreasted, and Chestnut-crowned Antpittas other birds in this area are Cloud-forest Pygmy-Owl, Golden-headed Quetzal, Powerfull Woodpecker, Dark-backed WoodQuail, Rufous-breasted Antthrush and White – Faced Nunbird. Night at Sachatamia Lodge.

DAY 3: Sachatamia - Río Silanche Bird Sanctuary and Milpe

Today we have a full birding day in the lowlands looking for Blue-tailed and Whitetailed Trogons, Olivaceous Piculet, Red-rumped, Cinnamon and Black-checked Woodpeckers, Tawny-crested, Scarlet-and-white, Rufous-winged and Bluewhiskered Tanagers, Scarlet-thighed and Scarlet-breasted Dacnis, Squirrel and Little Cuckoos, Plumbeous Hawk, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Checker-throated Antwren, White-bearded Manakin, Masked Tityra, Slate-throated Gnatcatcher, Black-capped Pygmy-Tyrant, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Barred Puffbird and many other lowland species.

In the afternoon we will visit to Milpe Bird Sanctuary where we will search for Duskyfaced Tanager, Rufous-throated Tanager, Scaly throated Foliage-gleaner, Clubwinged Manakin, Brown-billed Scythebill, Choco Warbler, Speckled NightingaleThrush, Slaty-capped Flycatcher and others. Night at Sachatamia Lodge.

  • Breakfast, box Lunch and dinner at Sachatamia Lodge.

 

DAY 4: Amagusa Reserve – Sachatamia Lodge

After breakfast we will go an easy dirt road passes through verdant Cloudforest loaded with some superb Chocó endemics not easily see elsewhere, including Orange-breasted Fruiteater, Indigo Flowerpiercer, Moss-backed Tanager, Black-chinned Mountain-Tanager, Glisteninggreen Tanager, and Streaked Tuftedcheek. Other species we will be looking are Uniform Treehunter, Black Solitaire, Esmeraldas Antbird, Ochre-breasted and Rufous-throated Tanagers, Red-faced Spinetail, Scaly-throated, Buff-fronted and Lineated Foliage-gleaners, Choco Vireo, Slaty Antwren, Tawny-breasted Flycatcher, and Cinnamon Becard. Night at Sachatamia Lodge.
